DOVE VS. AXE

Real Beauty really?

When I first saw the dove campaign for real beauty I thought they must really wanna help heighten some peoples self esteem. But after I saw this picture i wasn't sure anymore if what i thought was right. One thing that i know for sure is companies don't do things for free. Everything they do has a reason behind it. Each one of these people are not over sized or ugly they are you everyday "typical" person. Why don't they include over sized people or even the "not nice" looking ones. Because of one reason that is not a good way to display their product. To me the Dove campaign for real beauty is jut another marketing grab.

Axe Effect
Axe is popular for it's commercials which display the Axe Effect. Every time I see this commercial it makes meroll my eyes in disgust. The Commercial is over exaggerating too much saying that girls are attracted to this smell. Personally I don't really like the smell of axe and as a girl i'm 100% sure that mobs of girls are not going to chase after guys who wear axe. The commercial shows girls in bikinis to attract more men to watch and buy there product.spray02.jpg (320×240)

I think that as a Parent Company for both products UNILEVER is not responsible in ensuring that all sectors uphold the same beliefs and values because this is life. A company will do whatever it take to make money and i don't find that wrong. That is why we learn to not believe in messages the media gives because most of the time they are just lies that try and get your money.

ADs of the Past

Was this Legal?

It was okay so say these messages in the past?

This is actually disgusting. I'm Sorry but i would not let a guy blow smoke in my facet. I'm not sure if it was attractive to men back then but its not very attractive to me right now. I'm pretty sure many girls these days find smoke disgusting. The ad is more unrealistic to me then inappropriate. It gives the message saying that the smell of smoke will make girls like you. But is that really true? Smoke does many bad things to your body, for example your teeth. Personally i find guys with black teeth very unappealing and i think i'm not the only one who thinks that way. This ad kinda reminds you of axe body spray doesn't it?

Disgusting No?

I find this ad 10 times worse than the one above. Come on were diets that bad before? I thought the lemon juice diet was bad? T
his is even worse. Did people actually do this back then? were they that stupid?! I mean i know that technology wasn't really good back then but was this really necessary. The thought of it disgusts me. The ad tells you to eat and eat and eat then later just have tape worms eat your insides and you'll always stay thin. This is very suicidal don't you think? It's the wrong way to diet and if people actually believed it back then that means back in the day people were very easy going. That means that people were very easy to trick and companies profited off that. Something like this today would be laughed at. I think people in our society today are smart enough not to elieve in something as ridiculous as this.

Makes doctor's look bad

I think that this ad makes doctors look really bad, not just that it gives off a bad message. Whether it was back then or today we all trust doctors. People know that doctors study medicine, so they would know what is good for the human body and what is bad. If people see this ad which says that doctors think camel is good what do you think they'll be doing? Smoking Camels. I understand that back then they didn't know that tobacco was harmful but even so Doctors shouldn't be promoting it. It would be illegal today to advertise tobacco so this ad wouldn't even be shown.

Lard why not butter?

Come on eating lard that's eating fat! how do people not get fat eating fat? Even if back then they believed things easily back then this is not believable at all. Have a happy life by eating FAT?! use butter.

Anyways these ads are pretty good in a sense of displaying their message to the public. The content though is horrible. Today these ads would probably be considered as jokes, people wouldn't take it seriously. Half of them wouldn't even be legal. People back then sure believed in these things easily and that's what companies profit off of.

Google Street View

What do i think about Google street view?

IT'S THE BEST!

Way before google street view came out i often went on google maps to look at where i live. The pictures were tiny and i could only see my roof and long green yard. At the time i wished they had something that let me see my house and maybe catch a picture of me with it. Guess what?! now they do! That made my day i spent the longest time on it just taking a look around m area. It actually became quite convenient since i could now see some of my relatives houses.

Privacy issues?

Personally I don't mind. Think of it this way we don't live in the stone age anymore, technology is growing and we just have to adapt to it. I honestly don't think that google steet view is bad at all. If someone were to stalk me there are 100 ways to do it and it doesn't have to be using Google Street view. With everything out there today from satellite images to tracking devices or even cameras that can zoom in at you from kilometers away theres nothing wrong with google street view. Does it really matter if your license plate can be seen or you face? don't e walk around everyday showing our face to people. It is against the law to hide your license plate so what is the big deal with privacy issues? With GPS systems today your parents can track where you are just with their phone. I don't think that there is a single place in the world that we live in that would gve us 100% privacy. It is just not possible and people should realize that.

Anyways to wrap up my point I think that Google Street View is convenient and there is nothing wrong with it. People might have issues with it today but later on in our lives technology is going to evolve and when that time comes what are we going to say? Technology is bad? We should just stop evolving as humans and go back to when the dinosaurs roamed around earth? I don't think so.
